Being a homeowner means that you are constantly doing home maintenance. Changing out a furnace filter is quick and easy but often overlooked. Below you will find the steps on how to do it along with a quick video.
Step 1: Locate your filter
Head down to your furnace and find the panel in the blower compartment. Most have a door like handle that can be pulled off revealing the filter.
Step 2: Remove old filter
Pull the filter completely out and set it to the side. Make note of which way the arrows are pointing on the filter so you can reinstall the new one correctly.
Step 3: Install new filter
Slide the new filter into the slots on the bottom of the blower compartment. Make sure the arrows are pointing the correct way. They should be pointing at the blower compartment which sucks air through the filter and sends it around your house.
Step 4: Finish and clean up
Close up the panel and take your old filter out to the garbage. Make sure the area around your furnace is clear of debris.
Use this time to change the battery on your carbon dioxide detector near your furnace.
